About Brothers in Arms:

Where Family, Tradition, and Community Meet

Our Story

Situated in the idyllic setting of Walpole St Andrew, Brothers in Arms serves as a heartfelt monument to kinship, affection, and lasting resilience. Established by Ben & Gemma Human, this isn't just any country pub—it's a personal endeavour, constructed stone by stone by Ben himself.

Originating from a heartfelt aspiration and a deep sense of mission, Ben, who was profoundly impacted by the early loss of his younger brother, was driven to create a haven that would both pay tribute to his late sibling and act as a communal hub for families. Guided by this purpose, Ben took it upon himself to construct the pub from scratch, personally placing each individual brick.

Each element of Brothers in Arms—from its stones to its beams—reflects a part of Ben's soul and stands as a tribute to the familial principles he cherishes. This isn't merely a commercial venture; it's a living testament to the enduring love and fortitude that have shaped Ben's existence. It's a welcoming space where families unite to celebrate life, find joy, forge new memories, and feel a sense of belonging.

This family-centric ethos permeates every facet of the pub, from the home-cooked meals crafted from local produce to the inviting ambience that awaits each visitor. Brothers in Arms transcends the definition of a mere country pub; it's a refuge where the community unites, connected by the universal bonds of kinship and camaraderie.

When you walk into Brothers in Arms, you're not merely stepping into a pub; you're joining a lineage—a lineage that respects its roots, rejoices in the present, and eagerly anticipates a future rich with collective narratives and treasured moments.

A Legacy in the Making

The story of Brothers in Arms is deeply rooted in the legacy of Great Grandad Ezra Claud Human. A former Merchant Navy sailor, Ezra set up a transport business in Terrington St Clement in 1920, around the same time as Eddie Stobart. During the war, his company supplied the whole country, laying the foundation of entrepreneurship and community service that runs in our veins.

From Butchery to Hospitality

Before venturing into the pub business, we've been serving the community through our butcher's shop, Samuels, directed by Ben Human since 18 April 2015. With a large and satisfied customer base, we aim to bring the same level of satisfaction and quality to Brothers in Arms.
